Tips for AIEEE

AIEEE 2009

Changing pattern of the IIT JEE is nothing new – recent years have experienced many such changes. However, the JEE 2009 there was a qualitative shift in the kind of questions asked – these do not require a lot of rigorous problem solving, but rather a fairly good understanding of the concepts and the ability to comprehend and analyse. This shift is welcome. The major changes: disappearance of assertion reasoning type of questions, subjective questions back in paper and negative marking in one or more than one correct choice types.

Expected Cut off

Whereas a score of about 150 can be suitable for securing name in the common merit list. An average student has chances to score almost equally in all three sections.

Students have already studied everything they planned to, revised, taken mocks and done their strength and weaknesses analysis topic wise, as well as subject wise. Students don’t even dream of studying anything new at this point of time. What they should be doing is-

• Focusing on revision of important formula steps, assumptions, etc.

• Working towards deciding their test taking strategy for the JEE. Students now know which areas they are weak in and in which areas they are strong in (subject wise), so they should decide which subject to start with, and also make an estimate about how many questions should be correctly answering or attempting in order to secure the rank which they are aiming at, based on previous years’ analysis available on IIT websites etc.

• Eating healthy, maybe anti oxidants etc, getting adequate sleep and meditating, and so on.

• Students must not try to learn new things at this stage. They should try to consolidate whatever they already know. In the paper a score of about 45% to 50% will be good enough.

• Over the years, in chemistry, questions have been repeatedly asked on electrochemistry, thermodynamics, ionic equilibrium, states of matter, chemical bonding and organic chemistry. If we cover these topics thoroughly we would be able to secure 50% marks easily

• In organic chemistry, reaction mechanism, particularly those involving reactions of alekenes, alkynes, alcohols and carbony compounds are the most important areas in which students are tested. Another important topic is strength of organic acids and bases.

• Biomolecules is also becoming increasingly popular with JEE question setters.

• In inorganic chemistry qualitative analysis, coordination compound, Periodic propertiesand extraction of metals are particularly important.Apart from that questions are also asked from general properties of s, p, d & f block element.
